The boundary field theory induced by the Chern-Simons theory

The Chern-Simons theory defined on a 3-dimensional manifold with boundary is written as a two-dimensional field theory defined only on the boundary of the three-manifold. The resulting theory is, essentially, the pullback to the boundary of a symplectic structure defined on the space of auxiliary fields in terms of which the connection one-form of the Chern-Simons theory is expressed when solving the condition of vanishing curvature. The counting of the physical degrees of freedom living in the boundary associated to the model is performed using Dirac's canonical analysis for the particular case of the gauge group SU(2). The result is that the specific model has one physical local degree of freedom. Moreover, the role of the boundary conditions on the original Chern- Simons theory is displayed and clarified in an example, which shows how the gauge content as well as the structure of the constraints of the induced boundary theory is affected.Comment: 10 page

Gold Nucleation Inhibition by Halide Ions: a Basis for a Seed-Mediated Approach

In the present work, we examine the effect of halide ions on gold nucleation, a typical synthetic variable in the wet-chemical production of gold nanostructures. It was found that the homogeneous nucleation of gold by the chemical reduction of aqueous gold ions is kinetically quenched by an increase in the concentration of halide ions, and this effect grows stronger as the Au–halide complex stability increases. The nucleation quenching is not exclusively related to a specific reducing agent, but appears to be a more general behavior, and is affected by the pH of the media. While no nucleation is observed, Au(I) metastable species coexist together with the reducer, constituting metastable solutions. It is demonstrated that nucleation inhibition by halide ions can be employed as a basis for a seed-mediated approach to produce gold nanostructures. The metastable solutions are proved to function as growth baths, where Au(I) reduction is triggered on the surface of previously synthesized gold nanoparticles, driving their growth in the absence of secondary nucleation. It is also shown how, with this approach, the synthesis conditions can be rationally designed to obtain gold nanoparticles with the desired properties in a controlled and reproducible fashion.Fil: Moiraghi, Raquel. Human mobility and spatial disease dynamics

    Get PDF
The understanding of human mobility and the development of qualitative models as well as quantitative theories for it is of key importance to the research of human infectious disease dynamics on large geographical scales. In our globalized world, mobility and traffic have reached a complexity and volume of unprecedented degree. Long range human mobility is now responsible for the rapid geographical spread of emergent infectious diseases. Multiscale human mobility networks exhibit two prominent features: (1) Networks exhibit a strong heterogeneity, the distribution of weights, traffic fluxes and populations sizes of communities range over many orders of magnitude. (2) Although the interaction magnitude in terms of traffic intensities decreases with distance, the observed power-laws indicate that long range interactions play a significant role in spatial disease dynamics. We will review how the topological features of traffic networks can be incorporated in models for disease dynamics and show, that the way topology is translated into dynamics can have a profound impact on the overall disease dynamics. We will also introduce a class of spatially extended models in which the impact and interplay of both spatial heterogeneity as well as long range spatial interactions can be investigated in a systematic fashion. Our analysis of multiscale human mobility networks is based on a proxy network of dispersing US dollar bills, which we incorporated in a model to produce real-time epidemic forecasts that projected the spatial spread of the recent outbreak of Influenza A(H1N1)

The company Dismac s.c.c, reagents and supplies distributor of medical equipment, is located in the city of Quito. lts main problem is the weak organization within the company. The reasons for the current situation it is in, is the result of decisions made in an empirical way without prior review and analysis for staff working within it. Not realizing that human talent and competitiveness depends on the evolution of a company in the market, being the engine of it, they make it achieve the objectives and goals. Additionally, the lack of new infrastructure causes unproductive activities, low effectiveness in the delivery of the goods is due to limited space and offices are not properly distributed causing discomfort and therefore, there is not a good performance in workers. To overcome these drawbacks, we propose the creation of new offices, ongoing training for workers so as to optimally meet the challenges presented in the market, coming this way to excellence

    Fully adaptable electro-optic dual-comb generation

In this letter, an all-electronic method that provides a precise control over the number of spectral lines of an electro-optic frequency comb is presented and experimentally validated. This feature, in conjunction with the straightforward configuration of the optical resolution (repetition frequency) inherent to electro-optic combs, enables the generation of optical comb sources with the unique capability of a complete adaptability to the targeted spectral feature/s that could ultimately maximize the SNR of any electro-optic comb-based spectroscopic measurement

[EN] Design, modeling and construction of a BJD (Ball Jointed Doll) prototype based on an original character. Optimización lineal aplicada a teoría de juegos

In the following TFG we deal with the Game Theory and with the application that the Linear Programming has on it. We start defining some key concepts that will serve us as a base. Within the Game Theory there are manly two theories: the cooperative one and the non-cooperative one. We consider that the non-cooperative approach is the most appropriate to analyse our problem, that is: every single player might find its own strategies considering that the others will use their best strategies as well. To this effect, we will use the Linear Programming to obtain the most accurate solution. On the other side, the cooperative approach deals with the assumption that the hypothetical players are going to cooperate and, to this respect, they will act according to the most suitable social way, focusing on how the players should divide out the benefits of its cooperation. Due to those reasons, we will use the Core and the Nucleolus and revise the Linear Production Games, in which the Linear Programming furnishes on how to spread the benefits within extensive coalitions.Universidad de Sevilla.
